PANELS
We host focused, structured panels by bringing various health professionals together to discuss the commonalities between their individual careers.
HEALTHCARE DURING COVID
In collaboration with AHS WiSTEM, a club at American High, AMYBA hosted a panel consisting of an epidemiologist, pathologist, research scientist, and general surgeon. Each healthcare professional spoke about their daily work and how the pandemic impacted their fields. Our panelists were Dr. Julia Bailey, Dr. Valerie Ng, Laura Bauer, and Dr. Rita Kwan.
This is a snippet of Senior Research Scientist, Ms. Laura Bauer speaking on how Gilead Sciences was able to make their COVID-19 treatment, Remdesivir, available for compassionate use in October of 2020.
PSYCHOLOGY x PSYCHIATRY PANEL
AMYBA hosted a psychology panel featuring psychologist Dr. Ying Liu and psychiatrist Dr. Srinagesh Mannekote Thippaiah. While both professions focus on mental health disorders, club members were able to see the difference in how each profession approaches treatment. Dr. Mannekote and Dr. Liu conversed about the similar cases they’ve worked on.
This is a snippet of Dr. Mannekote explaining one of the research projects he has worked on. He emphasizes the importance of collaboration within medicine.
PREMED PANEL
Featuring Ashwin Vasudevan from UCLA and Sumaya Uthmaan from UW, AMYBA hosted a Premed Panel in which undergraduates on the premed track spoke on the college admissions process, premed life, and general advice for high schoolers looking to pursue this path in college.
This is a snippet of Ashwin and Sumaya speaking on the importance of prioritizing your passions and being able to celebrate your individuality instead of “playing by the book”.
